Eric's Current Computer
The computer that I am now using is not a desktop computer, it's a
notebook, somebody like to call it a laptop or a portable computer.
My notebook was manufactured by Compaq and its model number is Armada 1580DMT which
looks like the one in the following picture.

Actually, the model in that picture is 1585DMT, but these two models are almost
identical. (I took that picture from the cache of Internet Explorer, which was stored
when I browse Compaq's homepage more than 3 months ago! Cool?)
For those who are interested in the configuration of the computer, it has an
Intel Pentium 150MMX CPU, 2G hard disk, 12.1" TFT screen, 10X CD-ROM (Can't remember
if it's really 10X, probably 20X, but this doesn't really much matter anyway), 16-bit
sound card, 33.6K modem, 1.44mb floppy disk drive and a track pad. That's a quite good
configuration for notebooks.
Notebooks are not cheap! I bought this one because I can take
it to England for doing my homework! (And entertainment! Of course!) It was bought a week
before I left Hong Kong, and now, the story begins...
The White Screen
On the day that I left Hong Kong for England, just two hours before I left my home
for the flight, the screen on my notebook suddenly went out of order!!! The whole screen
display nothing but white! No matter how I tried to fix it, it didn't work!!! I was very
nervous! It was quite unlucky that it was Sunday, the Compaq service centre wasn't opening
at that time!
At last, I could do nothing but to bring it to the plane and try to find someone to
repair it in England.
When I arrived England, I found that the screen could function
sometimes by shaking it! Though this sounds horrible, I did that every time I want to turn
on the computer! Sometimes succeed, sometimes not. Well, it's a good problem to some
extent... It prevents you from playing the computer all the time... (I found the address
of Compaq service centre in that place actually. However, it was too far away and I didn't
go there cause I wasn't familiar with that place at that time.)
The Operation!
One night, I didn't sleep well, and I got up and turn on the computer. It's already
normal for me to see that white screen. I shook it just as what I did before, however, it
didn't work! I was so angry! (Don't know why I was so angry at that time!) I then took out
a screwdriver and open the back of the notebook!
I pressed, pressed and pressed the wires in it, guess what?
Hohoho! The screen functioned perfectly again! No more white screen! The
"operation" was very successful!
(Note: It's very dangerous to open the computer if you are not
keen in this area! Don't do it yourself like me! Always ask an experience person or a
technician to help you!)
Until recently, the screen seems going to have problem again...
Thank you for reading till here!
You may continue to read on the story about my first computer, which should be even
more interesting!
