To repair this problem, boot with Windows XP CD-ROM or floppy disks and choose the option to install. On the next screen, choose repair to repair your Windows installation. When the repair process is finished, you will be able to boot back into your operating system without losing data or having to reinstall software.

That's exactly what it is cym. The boot loader files are either corrupted or missing.

You should do a system repair if you can boot to your XP cd.

I have the problem with the trap too.

I get this error message everytime i start my notebook, but only if i start my notebook after a while of 20 minutes after shutdown or longer. When i restart it immidately after shutdown there is no error.

Furthermore it tells me that windows could not start because of an error
in windows/system32/config

So if i get this error message, i have to restart for about 5-6 times then it works correct.

I have repaired the system files with Xp's repair when booting from cd-rom.
I have installed windows xp several times, but everytime i get the same error, i have installed also winMe but nevertheless same problem.

I made a bios-update i have formatted the disc in another notebook(but same type of notebook)

Can someone help me please, what to do??

I recieve this error when I attempt to re-install Windows XP from the CD.

My main harddrive reccently went down and I'm attempting to install windows on my second harddrive.
I went so far as to try installing XP onto the harddrive in another computer, but when transfered back to this computer I get a blue screen error durring startup (I think this is window's anit-pirate scheme working).

My system is:
Soyo SY-KT333 DRAGON Ultra (Platinum) MotherBoard
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
512 MB DDR RAM (one stick)
GeForce 4 Ti4600 (Gainward Goldensample)
Western Digital Caviar 80GB (WD-800JB)
TDK VeloCD AI-401248 CD-RW

I'm guessing the problem is either my motherboard or cpu, but I don't have a way of testing either individually. (no other mb that can support the cpu. no other cpu that the mb can support)
And I don't have the money to replace working parts. Any ideas?

I can't say for sure if you're having the same problem I was having... but one of my hard drives was dying. If i hadn't had it hooked up through my highpoint raid controller, then the S.M.A.R.T. warning would have come on. Luckily my HD was a WD Caviar (and still under warranty) so fixing it only cost me $5.00 (shipping) and some time.

I had the same thing. Its perfect now.

From the bios menu i disabled slow boot ( memory test )

then noticed the RAM only counted up to 130 instead of my usuall 196.
( without changing to slow boot - it just showed 196......but it wasnt nahh, lol )

TO FIX. . . .

1.Get a screwdriver.
2.Take off the cover of your pc.
3.Remove the RAM ( check a website to identify it, its easy ).
4.Put the RAM back GENTLY BUT FIRMLY.

Thats it. Mine was fixed.

As always......I remembered, at last, i had this years ago and i think it was same scenario.

Ok i just got this error also:

specs
3.2 ghz processor
1 gig ram
2 sata HD

I put the windows xp disc in and it gets to BOOT FROM CD: then it gives me the error. I've tried disconnecting one HD and using the other and vice versa and still nothing. I've changed out my CD drives and still the same error.
