I just started to build my gaming pc and am running into problems. The power led lights up on the board, all the fans spin(board fan, cpu fan, and gpu fan). But I recieve no post and get no video output. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

MOBO-Asus A8V-E Deluxe 939 pin
CPU-AMD Athlon 64 3500+
RAM-Corsair cmx512-3200xlpro. Two 512mb sticks. 400mhz each

Once again thanks for any help.

ok not sure how far you have gone with this, so here goes
not posting
check that main boad is sat down correctly no shorts
remove all opticals and hard drive cable and power connectors to them
try that
if still the same try reset the cmos ( either by jumper or remove battery for 10 mins )
also try a diffrent graphic card either an old pci one ( remove agp card first )
try it
also remove all other pci cards i.e capture cards sound cards firewire anything like that
try it
then try memory with a diffrent type then aslo check cpu.
all this depends if psu is ok

I had the same problem.
It wasn`t a short.
All voltages were correct on my power supply but it could not put out the
vcore current and it was brand new.
I got another power supply on the proviso that I could return it if it did not
solve my problem.
Sounds like you got some nice hardware
Try a different ps first - say 400w.

Check you have your ram in the correct slots (refer to manual). If you don't the board won't post.

I have the exact same problem too, same mobo and processor and Corsair RAM. I haven't taken my mobo out yet, but I am thinking it is my PSU too. I got a Logisys case that came with a 480w PSU(which I assumed would be powerful enough), however, it won't get past the post. I get the System Failed CPU test or something like that.

The other thing I noticed, my DVD and floppy drives aren't getting power(no lights on either), and the power button on my case will turn on, but won't turn off - have to hit the switch on the PSU to turn it off. All my fans are running, just like the original poster.

I have read in another forum that the 12v rail needs to be at LEAST 18a for Athlon 64s to run, mine is only 16amps. I am going to go buy a new PSU today and try it out. I will post my results here once I get it installed. Another thing I have read is that the BIOS that shipped with the board doesn't recognize Athlons with the Winchester core, and you have to use the EZflash utility to upgrade the BIOS.

Man..........i am having the same problem today.

The setup is only two weeks old. I have been testing various 6800 ultra drives to see which yielded best performance. Lastnight, was able to obtain 5965 on 3Dmark05 before going to sleep. The puter powered down but all the fans(4) are still running. Did really think nothing of it, just tap the swich on the back. This morning well.......NOTHING. Front panel switch will not power up. The back power switch will power the system instantly but no posting..

SETUP:

K8V Asus
3400+ (idles at 36C temp)
EVGA 6800 ultra (46C temp idle)
2g Corsair xms 2-2-2-5 led ram
OCZ 600W psu
Liteon DVD/CD
2 sata 74G wester raptor in RAID 0

Heat was never the issue now matter how far it was OC'ed. The setup took out one Ultra-X psu a week earlier. Figured that he 600W ocz will put it all to rest. Now this! could this be another PSU issue? Mem? CPu? Mobo?........oh the headache........

Anyon have an asprin......or a solution?

best........Jason

i really don't know what to say for all of you ppl here.

i had issues with a rig using this mobo, but the problem turned out to be the gpu and the mobo was rock solid with a new card.

my recommendations
1. use the latest bios, it is possible your cpu isn't being detected...in that case, you'll need a older 939 cpu to post the board and put in the new bios

2. check the video card

3. make sure the ram is in the right slots. this board will not post if the ram is in the wrong places

4. also reset the cmos and see

5. powersupply, probably the least possible culprit out of all i have listed here.

anyways, good luck folks

If all of the wires are right and you can verify this, I would look it being a memory issue. Confirm that your memory is definitely compatible with the MB. Also, I have 1 gig mem module which I put into A1, because I thought that made sense it ended up belonging in B1. (I think) I'd look into this being an issue.

Good luck.... Evan

Yes if you have 1 stick it goes into b1, if u add another that goes into a1. Make sure everything is plugged in correctly of course. My friend had a similar set up to mine (im the original poster) and he was getting power ot the fans and everything but it wouldnt post because he didnt plug in the 4 pin cable from the psu to the mobo. That solved all his problems, i hope some of you only made a mistake and its so easily fixed.

Best of luck

just bought the asus a8v deulxe with a socket 939 3000+ today and I'm getting that trippy sounding voice saying system failed cpu test. I've read its problems with the bios, can anyone confirm this. I mean I've built alot of systems and even amd 64 systems, but this is my first try with this combination. I'm at a lost as to what to do.

system barton 2500+ (1.8GHz) oc to 3200+ (2.3GHz)
ASUS a7n8x-x mb
1 gig of pc3200 ram
ati 9600XT 256mb

Clear the CMOS and try again. Also check your memory modules are in the correct slots.

Aha, it is working indeed....so guys, let me say one thing, the Asus A8VXXX series seems to me to be a beta board. I had quite the same problem, and this is how it is fixed:

Install a 256MB into RAM slot B1, others won't work, 512 won't - definitely!
download latest bios - might try beta one - and copy it one a bootable floppy, install afudos flash utility on the same disk
start your machine, use F8 (or TAB??) holding down delete key, if you get this far, evberything will work, probably
you'r asked to press F1 or F2 to continue with default bios values, press F2!!!!!!!!!!
boot from floppy and flash bios using
a:\afudos /i1011005.ami or so, whereas 1011005.ami is the beta bios file name
restart
should work now

why is the a8v a beta board? Because it is shipped with a bios that DOES NOT SUPPORT the WINCHESTER CORE!!!!
How come? How about telling asus that this is "unacceptable"!!!!????

ah, sorry, made a mistake there...

start your machine holding down delete key, and THEN press F8 for BBS popup (boot selection)

You don't need to hold Del during boot for BBS popup-just press F8 at the POST screen.

Incidentally, I've not heard that the A8V doesn't support the Winchester core without a bios update-but if this is the case, perhaps it's because the Winchester core hadn't been released when the board was designed.

Well the thing ist like that I belive:

Originally the A8V did not support the Winchester core although amd had released it previously to the asus a8v. Most a8v are sold with a newer bios, but some older ones - those that have been in stock for a while - still have t 1002 bios version. So once in a while - with a lot of bad luck - you get one of those, as I did. Took me 6 hours to figure out that it was the bios version. Now I have an a8n-sli wich works great. But still, it was shipped with the 1002 bios. 1006 is the current release, 1007-003 th current beta available at http://www.asus.com

I bought my A8V quite soon after they were released, and at that time the Wincester core had not been released. So the board must have been designed before the Winchester cored cpu's were available.
