What is the simplest way to connect two computers together???

Well, I had an onboard network card and got damaged. Now I have a realtek network card. If my modem is connected to this card how can i do the network???

if the objective is to transfer stuff, then u get this usb direct connect cable that lets u connect any 2 pc's,laptop etc via the usb port.

So I connect the two pc via a USB to USB? Do I have to arrange any settings?
The main aim aim is to play games against each other. In this case i need to go to cat cables, I think.

Ideal connection is to use a HUB, you can see both computers even if you are not on the internet.
Too, if your printer has network capability, you can connect it to the HUB and both computers can see the printer. Connect from either your motherboard onboard internet card or purchase a network card and CAT 45 cable. Connect the HUB to your internet modem and both systems can see the internet.

i use my 4pin to 4pin firewire cable. 800mbps ain't bad (400 for those without 1394b)

What I'm trying to do is use my girlfriend's pc (which is faster) in connection with my one (which has the hard disk space)

My girlfriend's one will then be the main one everyone's using and mine will be little more than an external drive. Any ideas how to put that one together? They've both got ethernet but that would be used to connect to the internet. We've also got a sky router and windows xp if that helps
