Hello,
I've recently encountered a problem with my computer restarting a lot. I thought I may of had some virus so I used the XP installation CD to do a fresh restart. However now it reboots itself during the the loading of the software. I have already deleted the original partition so I can't go into windows normaly. Instead of going into windows I get the "NTLDR is missing." When I try to reload the software again it will eventually just reboot before the installation is complete.
I have a custom computer that I bought from someone else 2 years ago. It has been great to me. It is overclocked as a 3.0 P4. It is cooled very well with many fans as it usually keeps a steady temperature at around 100 degrees. (It has aerocool temp monitoring.)
I also just bought a new Geforce 6200 agp card for it. I initially thought this was problem as I never had the card installed before the NTLDR problem arose. I believe my old card was a problem though because when swapping in the origial the screen went blank. Computer also has (2) 1 gig ram sticks.
From what I gather from reading other posts it may be a problem with the power supply, ram, or motherboard. Does anyone know where I should start??? Thanks!

There is the link to random reboots. Have you tried setting hd to "CS"? (cable select) Or haveinghd and roms on different ribbons? Have you tried a different ribon, or end overending the ribbon?

Thanks for the link. I went through but am still experiencing problems.

First off I check to see if it was overheating. I stuck my big bedroom fan up close to it and still had the problem. I then unplugged some of the accessories from the computer and saw the temp drop from 122 down to 115 degrees on the cpu. The rest of the components of the case are around 82 degrees. The case was nice and cool so I don't see how overheating can cause this issue. Also as I unplugged unessary drives, I'm thinking that this should have reduced the power draw. So I am also ruling out the power supply at this point.
I also checked my ram. I unplugged one of the sticks and the computer crashed earlier in the install. I switched sticks and it crashed at the same point as the first. It seems like the install gets much further with both sticks running. Because I couldn't differenciate a problem between either sticks I am assuming that the RAM is also in good working order.
So now I am wondering if I either have a corrupt hard drive or a motherboard issue. Does anyone have any ideas of what I do next? Thanks for any help.

Raise the voltage to your ram. If it runs stable at that point, then your psu is weak and needs replaced. (in bios)

Have you tried win 98 or me? That could tell you if your hd is good. But not neccesarely if your win xp is bad.

How much should I raise the voltage? Will that damage the RAM? Thanks
