Hello all.
I want some help
I´ve acquired a acer laptop with windows vista home premium in a store in Brazil.
They put the name of the store as the main user. (i.e. saraiva)
all my documents are now save in the folde c:\user\saraiva
how can I change the sariva name to my name?
I´ve tried change the name in accounts sections..and even changing.. it remains the samen folder
i tried to change the computer name.. again.. the folder remains the same...
do you have some idea how can it be done.. ( I tried to force too by renaming the folder.. but the OS do not allow)

By the way. .another question.. what happens during welcome screen.. sometimes.. it takes only 2 to 3 sec to logon.. while sometimes it takes as long as 30 sec.
Can I disable some services to get quick access?

Thanks all.
Charlie

I'm not sure if there is a quick and/or elegant way of changing the full username, including the folder in \Users. The best I could suggest would be to create a new user with the username you want, move your files, and delete the old user.

Yep, that is perhaps the easiest way...

i would do a backup/ restore instead of a transfer if you want the settings, emails, etc also
transfered.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Thank you guys.
I cannot do what you´ve sugested.
Well, let´s try in another way.
I prefer to save my documents in another partition of the hard drive.
There is possible to put the folder users in the other partition?
Thank you for your help.
Charlie

Why can't you create another user?

The only thing I can think of to move the \Users folder is to create a symbolic link named C:\Users to the new folder. If you've ever used Linux, you should know what a symbolic link is. XP didn't support them but Vista does (not entirely, but it works pretty good).

It might be a bit tricky, since you can't delete the C:\Users folder while Vista is running, and if Vista isn't running, you can create the symlink. So it might not be possible. :(

yep - only way to do it is what McFly says. Create a new account. Move all files over, delete Savira account.
This will change the name of the account in Windows Explorer, but if you simply want to change the username go to the control panel >user accounts > user accounts > change your account name.

Only read the manual as a last resort.

hey bro, i had the same problem, i am currently making payments on a laptop from a company here in america, and they also has a previous name for thir pc, what i did was go into regedit (if you do not know how to get in there or what to look for just ask on here and somebody, or myself will help you) then changed the names i wanted to be my own, so far thats worked, with no problems... once your in your registry, simply click edit on the menu bar, then click find... next type in the name of the username your wanting to change, then once its found, right click the string and select modify, then delet the part of the string where it says the old username, and enter the new one that you want it to be... now reboot, and that should do the trick, please, anybody correct me if im wrong! thannks for listening, and good luck!
