hi guys just built new rig and was distruaght when powered up and everything seemed fine, fans spinning etc on gfx card and all, but screen remains in standby, no display at all, this all happened yesterday so i gave the gfx card to my friend to take home and try on his system, he did and it works fine! to confirm we even tried it in the secondary pcie slot(intended for sli use) but still nothing, i also tried using a crt monitor as opposed to a vga tft but still no luck :( there are a few things that could resolve my issue that i have come across in my extensive forums searches which are that swapping the ram around might help or that i need to reformat my old hdd first as my old sytem was AGP no PCI-E i am yet to try these as my friend is at work and so am without my gfx card for now however i was just wandering if anyone had any other suggestions as to what could be going wrong?! here are my specs:

Intel E6550 C2D CPU
Asus P5NE SLI Mobo
2GB Corsair PC6400 800MHz Ram
8600GTS
60GB HD(old)
DVD-RW SATA
600W OCZ PSU
frustrating dilemma and desperatley need to get this new system going, any help would be much aprecciated! thanks in advance!

Could be a lot of things from the description, were there any beep codes?

First thing to do is to double check all of your connections (power, aux power, fans etc) and if they're all ok then remove any unnecessary devices and try booting just the basics - CPU, RAM and graphics card and see if it POSTs.

Well as of today, ( about two hours ago) I know that:
If a computer is all running and the display is black, there are no post beeps, take a look at the keyboard and mouse plugs.. make sure there in the right way around..

took me about 40 minutes to work that out ><img src=" title=">:O">

hmm, thanks for the replies guys im still trying! my mouse is usb and keyboard serial so thas ok but it should run without that anyway right? im starting to think it might be something to do with bad gfx card fit with the case pci e slot not lined up perfectly with the mobo slots causing it to earth out somewhere ?! im yet to attempt running a bench test of mobo and essentials out of the case but maybe this will show some results with the issue :s other suggestions from various techs etc have been about updating the mobo bios which at the moment is difficult with no display! but a friend is due to bring another pcie gfx card to try out this weekend and hopefully we will see light!(pun intended!) maybe allowing us to update bios! has anyone ever had similar problems where the gfx doesnt fit the case snugg? or its been earthed out?! and are there any solutions other than getting a new case and starting over?

again thankyou so much for your input guys i need the moral support! :)

It doesn't sound like a gfx card problem to me at all. Seems more likely to be mobo, cpu or PSU at this point.

hey guys finally resolved it, the answer was that the psu had 2 different 4 pin connectors cpu1 and cpu2 we assumed that they were the same and plugged in cpu1 and overlooked this, plugged cpu2 in and it ran fine! what a relief! thanks 4 al ur support guys!

I just put together a PC using this motherboard and had the same issue. For anyone else's reference, I was using 800 mhz RAM (PC2-6400). I had to install 533 mhz RAM to get into BIOS and change the RAM speed to 800 mhz. No way to get into the BIOS that I could find without using different RAM.

your rig is almost identical to mine, the problem i had was simmilar as well. im assuming that you got the pci power connected to the card, yes?
well if so then my problem was that my psu wasnt powerful enough. whats your wattage?
