Any one have major problems with this "printer"?

I can buy a new HP Officejet J5780 for US$65 today. Retail is $130.

My only consideration is that I will be using it to scan multiple page documents to my computer using its 36 sheet auto-feeder. It's for personal use, so I won't be scanning everyday...but when I do scan, it will be over a hundred pages at a time.

I'm not at all interested in using it as a printer, copier, FAX, etc.

Would you not buy a dedicated scanner?

I recently picked up a LexmarkX5495, similar features, and have no problems with it at all.

I also picked up a HP F380 - once again similar features, and it works very well, although no feeder for the scanner

Not for that price, apparently. At least the decent ones I've looked at with similar auto-feed scan capabilities were all priced considerably higher. Odd.

After having a quick check around, I have to agree, unfortunately. Strange.

I could test the multi page scan abilities of my lexmark for you if you think that would help? Maybe 50 pages at the highest res/quality possible and let you know how long it takes?

That's a kind offer, but no need.

I'm more interested in whether people had any major problems: paper jams, early failures, crappy software, that sort of thing.

I don't mind if it takes a while to scan the pages, as long as I can "set it and forget it" and don't have to fuss with it until after it's scanned-in the 36 pages.

They told me they'd hold the price for me til Tuesday, although I'm pretty sure it isn't a "just for you" thing. :)

edit to add-
One major gripe I have with the older Officejet 7031xi (which I recently tried) is that if there's a single error while auto-scanning in the pages, the whole scan job aborts...meaning if it's scanned 20 pages and then has a problem, ALL 20 of the good scans are deleted and you have to start completely over. STUPID SOFTWARE DESIGN...I would hope they've improved it.

Can you test it before you buy it?

That would be a pain to have to reset it every time it jams or such. What is the sellers opinion on it. Ask for a general warranty on it if you can.
