Hi - Have the above mobo with an Athlon X64 X2 4000 & 4GB DDR2 RAM. - O/S is Win2K Pro SP4

1GB = Qimonda PC2 - 5300 (Supplied, tested as part of mobo bundle) & another 3 x 1GB Kingston PC2 - 6400 modules.

Have been getting BSOD's - seemingly random crashes with no relevant info' in Event Viewer, led me to test the RAM - Using several testers - mainly MemTest86 - I'm trying to make sense of this: -

- Each 1GB on it's own in any of the 4 Dimm slots seems to test OK

- When all 4 modules are onboard I get 1,000's of errors reported - with the faulty addresses always being shown as in the module in Slot 0.

- Same thing happens with 1 particular 1GB of the Kingston RAM when it's onboard with 1 other 1GB (either the Qimonda or another Kingston module).

- This same module though does not produce any errors when it is combined with any other 2 modules :/

So, as errors only happen when this Kingston 1GB is included in the onboard RAM am guessing the module is faulty - Just don't understand why it seems to be it only faults when included in a "even" total number of modules.

Reason I'm asking (& not just returning this 1GB as faulty) is that I'm not sure whether all this is more likely to indicate a faulty mobo - as it doesn't fault on it's own.

Just wondering if there is any known reason in the memory world as to why this might happen - before I start sending components back & moaning!

Hope all this makes some kinda sense - Apologies if I've omitted any obvious info' - not real sure what what is relevant!
Any suggestions very welcome - I'm getting a real bad headache!

Thanks

I've encountered a similar problem on a computer where the owner used higher voltage RAM than what was specified by the motherboard manufacturer.

Also, make sure all your BIOS settings have not been modified in anyway, for example CAS timings. I have done tests where I modified the CAS timings for the exact same chips, some went well with it, others did not. You may want to clear your BIOS settings and allow the CAS timings and frequency of the RAM to be detected automatically.

See if that works. I also wanted to mention that it's been reported that some motherboards do not like all RAM slots filled, thus it is recommended to use 2x2 GB instead of 4x1GB chips.

Thanks very much for your helpful advice - Sorry I've not replied before! - Just to let you know that after doing some more RAM testing I narrowed the problem down to 1 of the 3 new modules - Have now returned this as faulty and rec'd a replacement.
All now seems to be well - RAM tests 100% & no more crashes!

Thanks again for taking the time to reply
