Okay, i'm upgrading my case to an Antec Nine Hundred, and i've come to realise that my old PSU chords will not reach around the case as easy. It's a very old PSU style.

The choices i've come to choose from are as the following:

Antec TruePower Trio 650w PSU
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-063-AN...subcat=103

OCZ GamerXStream 700W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

I only run a single 8800GTS card with a AMD 6000+ with plans to go SLI

Antec 900 Case w/ Stock Fans
EP45-DS3L Motherboard
8800GTS 512MB Video Card
Q6600 @ 3.2GHZ CPU
2GB Corsair DDR2 667MHZ Dual Channel Ram
2x 80GB Seagate HDDs
Corsair TX 650w Power Supply

If you plan to go SLI, I would get the 700w. But I can tell you the antec trio power is no slouch either, I have one and it is dead silent and supplies stable power.

- Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

- Antec TruePower 650w

I have the OCZ GameXStream 700W in my main desktop system, and it is an excellent powersupply. It is built very well and is quiet and seems to be power efficient. It's more then enough power for your system even when you do go with Dual 8800GTS cards in SLI. It's way overkill for my system as well, but when I bought it, it was only about $10 more then the 600W version.

What is your opinion on the Antec PSU I listed also?
It's just, I don't really have that much money.

How much cheaper is the Antec? It's probally a solid powersupply, the only reason I can't fully recommend it is that I have had an Antec die on after only a few months of use and I have heard of many others on here who have had their Antec PSUs die as well.

One brand of powersupply I do highly recommend is Corsair. Check out their 620W model, it's an excellent powersupply. If it's about the same as the Antec your looking at, I would get it instead of the Antec.

All of the Corsair PSUs are excellent, they do charge considerably more for modular ones though.

Matt,
I have a tendency to stick with the Enermax PSUs, but I've used others.
The Antec PSUs had a quality control issue when they went retail (when they became available in Best Buy and Circuit City, etc.) but before that they were very good PSUs. I've not tried one in the last year or so, but from the feedback I'm seeing, it seems they are back to making a good quality product. The same applies to OCZ, I've only used their DRAM, but their PSUs seem to be well spec'ed.

I can recommend both as I've evaluated both Antec and OCZ PSUs ahd have found both to be generally well made and stable. Antec makes a decent "economy" PSU which can sometimes be found on sale with rebate and free shipping for over 50% savings.

However, I too have recently read of increasing early-life failures of Antec PSUs, and out of 3 Antec 550W PSUs, 1 fan bearing started to fail within a few months . However, I've not read of system damage occurring in these events, so a warranty return may be the only issue. But of course, you're not able to use the system in the interim.

For highest reliabilty, I generally recommend purchasing a PSU with at least a 20% safety/upgrade margin, and I do not recommend modular PSUs.

Have you looked into PC Power and Cooling? Their former CEO* actually encouraged scientifically meaningful stress testing. They have produced quality PSUs, but it does cost. e.g.
$115--"ultra-quiet" 610W continuous, 670Wpeak, nVidia SLI certified

From one of my other HWA posts
You can determine the actual manufacturer of a PSU (including OEM PSUs) by looking at its UL certification label. You may find for example, that the PSU supposedly made by company "ULTRASUPERDUPER" is really made by the same company that makes the "MEGABLASTER" PSU..and it's the SAME PSU. It's interesting that in some instances the PSU made by "ULTRASUPERDUPER" might get a "good" review, while the PSU made by "MEGABLASTER" may not do as well.

For example, First I find the "UL File Number" on the outside of the box of an Ultra V-Series 500W" PSU. The number is E178768. it should also be on the PSU's UL label

Using the UL website lookup,
http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/index.htm
I find that the "Ultra" PSU is actually made by "Wintech Electronics Corporation" and clicking on the UL file for that, I see that Wintech is in
Yung-Ho, Taipei Hsien 234 Taiwan. In this file are also a lot of detailed performance data about this model PSU and other models Wintech certified under this filing.

*PCP&C was purchased by OCZ in 2007, but the PSUs are still branded PCP&C.

edit-to comment OCZ purchase of PCP&C for clarity
edit-whoops. Left out the UL hyperlink

I'm not too familiar with many other brands, i'm not that much into a computer system :)

thanks for everyones replies, i've checked the PSUs listed by everyone, it's just getting confusing now hahaha.

Gerritt the feedback i've read also shows that they don't really last long, so I guess that is that choice out of the way.

I have read over what everyone said, it's really hard to make a choice. haha.
here's another note;
I plan to go SLI 8800.
might help?

Matt if you are going SLI you do need a very good PSU, not just one that meets the standard throughput.
Like I said, I'm a Enermax guy, but you probably need to be looking at a 600W PSU at a minimum.

Any of the quality 600W to 700W powersupplies mentioned in this thread should do fine with a SLI 8800GT/S/X setup. They are all really great, the PC Power and Cooling powersupplies are supposed to be some of the best built out there. I have heard nothing but great things about the Corsair PSUs, and the OCZ StealthXStream/GameXStream series is right up with the best of them and typically fairly priced as well.

Thankyou Adam.
I know most of these power supplies are fantastic, but that leaves me to the choice of which one do I get haha.

I can't seem to find the 700w OCZ ANYWHERE on any site in australia, for a low enough price.
I don't really have $220 to spend right now.

So i'm going to concider settling with this;

NOTE: is this PSU the same as this? -

It's cheap, and i've read it'll suit my needs.
I really just want to power an antec nine hundred, 2-4gb of RAM, amd 6000+ and post probably 2x 8800gts.

The Corsair 650W should have no problem at all powering the specs you listed there, in fact I think it would give plenty of headroom. And yes those two powersupplies are probably the same thing. I believe the reason the one has the "AU" in the model name is just because it's probably the Australian version of it which is probably just a difference in marketing and packaging if anything.

Thankyou for your reply.
I was just wondering if they were the same because, the AU model looks more stretched out on that site, but that might just be the angle the photo was taken.

Also, Corsair are a reliable brand yup?

+ is it worth the 10 extra dollars to go from the 620w to the 650?

It costs US$90 here, and US$220 in Australia?
(note: per google, US$90~AU$94)

That really bites.

I think so. I'd like to see it leveraged a bit more, but that's still ok.
