I don't know about you guys, but I've been having problems with Firefox 3 crashing at certain sites (GoDaddy.com and Ubi.com seem to be the worst culprits of my frequented sites) and then Windows Vista telling me that Data Execution Prevention has closed Firefox to protect my system. I did some Google searching, and it looks like I'm not the only one having this problem.

If you're having this problem in Vista, you can do the following to bypass it until the Mozilla team fixes this issue

Right click your Firefox 3 shortcut.
Click on the "Compatibility" tab.
Check "Run this program as an administrator.

If you have User Account Control enabled, then you'll have to accept the popup, or enter the admin password every time you start up Firefox 3 depending on how your computer is set up.

I haven't experienced this problem in XP, but if it is an issue, I'm not sure of a fix. :(

You could add it to your Data Execution Prevention exceptions list. Go to:

Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System, left-click "Advanced system settings", left-click the "Advanced" tab, left-click "Date Execution Prevention", Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select", left-click "Add" and then browse for the executable for Firefox 3.

That might help?

Negative.

Have you had any success overriding the DEP?

Even choosing to run Firefox as admin hasn't helped; when attempting to start FF, it immediately crashes and the DEP popup appears.

This is bloody ridiculous that I can't get control over my own computer. Help!!

Are you running Firefox 3? It appears that they've fixed it in the latest version (3.0.1). Try updating, and see if that fixes it. :)

I'm not sure. I recently reformatted, so maybe try reinstalling Firefox altogether? I dunno, man, it just stopped happening to me. :P

Well, here's the thing.... I disabled the UAC in the hopes that that was the hangup when attempting to start FF with Admin status. This required a restart. Post-restart, I was able to start up FF.

IOW, I don't know if a simple reboot would've done it when I first encountered the DEP issue or not. Will try that if the issue ever arises again.

The point, though, is I am in back in Firefox. Thank gawd!!

(And thanks for the suggestions!)
