Now, i know this has been going on with desktop users for years.

I've just built a top spec machine for a photographer who's using this PC for the veiwing studio.

4gig of DDR2 800
intel coreduo 7200
gigabyte mobo
nvidia 8800GT alphadog

32" widescreen Samsung TFT with about 30 inputs lol

22" Widescreen Hans G. DVI input

He has a 22" widescreen TFT top resolution is 1680 x 1050. which has a real crisp image.

the 32" can handle 1360 x 768 as TOP resoltion.

This guy wants the 22" as primary screen and the 32" as the Clone! thru DVI

As you probably know as a default u cant clone at different resoltions. This guy needs the screens cloned. i've used Ultramon to get different resolutions and it works fantastic....till he used acdSee and photoshop...Slow was an understatement. Ultramon must use a hell of alot of memory when pushing out these kinds of displays.

All in all is there an easy way thru nvidia control panel to set up clone with different resolutions, bearing in mind the 32" is the secondary screen and needs to be 1360 x 768. if its possible to get the primary any other resolution we need to know.

its confusing the hell out of me :/

thanx in advance

Yeah, you can do a clone via the NVIDIA Control Panel:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Display Settings -> Settings tab

First make sure the secondary display is enabled:
Click on the secondary display in the gray area at the top of the screen and check the "Extend my display to this monitor" box.

Now to tell the video card how to handle it:
Advanced button -> [NAME OF VIDEO CARD] tab -> "Start the NVIDIA Control Panel" button

Make sure it is Advanced mode by clicking on View -> Advanced up at the top.

Under the Display tree, click on "Set up multiple displays." Under "Choose the nView display mode to use," select Clone. Set the primary to your 22" monitor and the HDTV to secondary. The only problem with this approach is that the HDTV is unlikely to display the full picture being displayed on the 22" primary monitor. The only way to really overcome that is to use Span Mode but then the secondary monitor becomes an extension of the primary monitor.

The best solution is probably to buy an external scaler. They aren't cheap though.

Hi ,
there is a possibility to use clone mode with different resolution, though NVidia would not acknowledge it ;): currently I'm using clone mode with GeForce8800GTS where the primary display set to 1280*1024, and the secondary 640*480.

The catch is that in order to do so, you need to reenable the classic NVidia Control Panel (CP) which was disabled, but not removed, since NVidia drivers ver 93.XX.
The interesting thing is that although it's no longer available to users, NVidia continues to mantain the classic CP ( For instance in ver 163.71 they changed some background textures and manipulated some hw options).But this is just off-topic..

In order to reenable the classic CP I use a batch file (thanks to NVidia Hardware forums) -
Just put the following lines in a text file, name it "xxx.reg" and execute. After that you'll get an option to select a classic CP from withing the new CP file menu.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"SedonaDisable"=dword:00000002
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"CplGroupUIPolicy"=dword:00000002

the keyword is SEDONA, and it really does magics:O (and thanks again to the NVidia forum hackers).

After you finally revert to the "normal" mode, (i.e Classic CP) you can use different resolutions with clone.
It's also useful to store the clone settings in nvidia profile file.

Regards,
Ev
