Actually you don't kill cops, really, it's more gang members and gang bosses.

I have been anxiously waiting for Rockstar to confirm the PC release date!

Best news I have heard all day!!! :D

Nov 18th is pretty soon! I can't wait! I was expecting Rockstar to to release the PC version sometime in 2009. Way to go Rockstar!

Judging from past GTA PC ports, this one should be pretty well optimized. Woot!!!

I have a feeling that it is inaccurate... That is historically too quick. I wait for stronger confirmation before I get my hopes up...

Ye sit seems very odd that they would launch it so quickly. Either it will be a horrible port or the engine is flexible enough that it can be coded into the Pc with ease.

*Edit*
Apparently it's true.

there is likely a PC version of every game they are written on PC's and during the debugging phase the games are running on PC hardware.

That's great that they are bringing it to PC in November, I was expecting it to be more like a year away. Considering the original launch date of the console version was in October 2007, they might have been planning to release the PC version in November 2008 all along. I already own the game for Xbox 360 since I bought it on launch day, but it will be interesting to see how much better the textures will be in the PC version.

The official press release can be found here:

Yep, it's official!

The deveolopers earn a greater revenue if they do it this way. At the end of the day developers care more about revenue than their fans.

Piracy is a issue which troubles the entire gaming community (consoles and PC). However piracy on the PC is much worse than the consoles.

I will be purchasing GTA4 on the PC release date.

I've never really played this game to be honest. I only played it a few times when it
was first released on PS1. It was like a top down view. Thought it was quite funny
when you got a telephone call, go do some business, then go get some p***y.

Anyways, that was the only experience I had with GTA. But the release date begs
the question... why is the PC Lat to get this, and after months of it being released
on the consoles. I'd be well p**sed if I played this game religeously! No joke!

Historically, GTA games have been released on the PC and Xbox nearly one year after the launch date on the Sony PS2 console. This time around it was same day launch on both the Sony and Microsoft consoles. And this time around the PC is getting it seven months after the release of the console version, which acctually seems kinda short from a historical perspective.

Still, i think it's pathetic how console releases are more scheduled for release
than our PC format. Once the new socket's released, it'll be a different story i
believe! I might even try a demo of this game, and possibly buy it. Everyone's
ranting on about it.

It's economics. Most game sales are on consoles so that is where publishers force developers. The advantage of PC is that it is fully capable of emulating any console out there which makes it a prime candidate for porting code. Ultimately, that means you get sub-par games but it is really sub-par or no games at this point.

New hardware never really has a major impact on the game industry. The impact it does have usually takes upwards of 10 years to actually be witnessed. Take The Sims for instance. The concept was conceived back in the 1980's but technology didn't advance to a point where it could be a viable product until over a decade later. The very same reason is why it took so long for a game like Spore to happen.

On the flip side, physics cards came out several years ago and there is still next to no games that take advantage of it.
